Dr. Ian Soriano is Director of Robotic Surgery for UCSF Surgery
We are pleased to announce that Ian Soriano, MD, FACS, FPCS (Hon), gastrointestinal surgeon and Associate Professor of Surgery at UCSF, will move into a new leadership role as Director of Robotic Surgery for UCSF Surgery, starting on September 1, 2023.
Dr. Soriano started in robotics in 2012. He has been actively involved in robotic curriculum development and training for residents since 2013 and pioneered the use of robotics in DIEP flap harvest in 2018 in collaboration with plastic surgeons at the University of Pennsylvania. He has served as Co-director of the ACS Robotic Surgery Course and faculty for both the SAGES and Intuitive Surgical robotic surgery fellows’ and resident courses and continues to mentor colleagues, trainees, and medical students worldwide in robotic surgery.
Dr. Soriano matriculated into a combined undergraduate and medical school program at the University of the Philippines. Following a rotating internship at the Philippine General Hospital, he came to the US and trained in General Surgery at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York and Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia before completing a clinical fellowship in minimally invasive surgery at the Cleveland Clinic, Florida Campus.
Since joining UCSF in 2021, Dr. Soriano has assumed numerous leadership positions, including Surgeon Champion for ACS-NSQIP and medical director of 13-Long/General Surgery UBLT. He was a recipient of the Haile T. Debas Excellence in Teaching Award in 2022.
